It's the Dawn of Time Forum!

Postby MichaelStearns on Sat Aug 09, 2008 6:15 pm

Thanks for visiting Dawn of Time Comics!

I don't think there is any need to outline any specific rules at this time, just try to be polite and follow that basic netiquette that we really should all be familiar with. Immediately relevant topics for discussion include the comic, other comics, and dinosaurs/general prehistoric geekiness. If enough people talk about other things, then maybe we'll make another place for it! If that doesn't sound like your thing, you can drop a hello over in the Guestbook Thread--you don't even need to sign in over there.

I unleash you! Go crazy!

Awesome! I think it's safe to say almost everyone is a fairly new reader at this point. ;)

If I might ask, how did you find the comic? Are my ads working? :)

Saw the ad on qwantz.com - who could resist Dawn of Time?

Excellent, $.70 a day well spent. I can't say I've really been picking ad placement too strategically, I just did it at a few sites I felt like supporting. :)

Josh Lesnick doesn't know it but I'm one of his first fans too. :D Relatively anyway, that guy's been cranking out comics for an awfully long time.

I don't know if I count as a "new reader" or not; I started reading before the forum was even up, and I put off registering until now.

I made my way here through a Livejournal post by this helldray guy who claims he made the comic.
You should go beat him up or something.
:E

In all seriousness though, I really like this comic!
I can't wait to see what happens next!

Hey, the guestbook didn't seem to work (at least, the reply Itried to post there has never appeared), so I decided I'd go ahead and register with the forum so I could mention that and tell you that I really like the comic. Like Malcontent, I was lured here by the ad on qwantz.com.

It's funny: qwantz is all about dialog, and the images are just there to have something to anchor the dialog. This doesn't even have any dialog to speak of (heh). But I like 'em both. Does that make me weird?

I really liked the first story arc, but I have to say that I was not expecting the UFO in the latest page. (And neither was the lungfish.) Can't wait to see where you go next.

Answer to the rhetorical question in paragraph two: no, I was weird to start with. :D

cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the heads up! I believe the Guestbook thread is working now, though apparently it was accepting messages, just not displaying them, waiting for admin approval. Even logged in as "admin" I can't find where I can approve those messages. xD

Glad you're liking it! :)

Hi, thanks for activating me. For the stats, I'm one of those linked in from GastroPhobia (tho only a day after discovering them).

(And about your namesake musician: he's not bad at all if you like ambient, but I'm not entirely sure if he's famous purely for the music or just for having been around so long.)

I got linked from Gastrophobia as well. Your comic is awesome. You've got a nice style, every page delivers, and Dawn's primitive incompetence is just adorable <3.

Also, nice Sonic Adventure reference in today's page.

Hah, I wondered if anyone would catch that. :)

I'm still getting a lot of hits from that one Gastrophobia link, clearly more awesome comics like that need to link me!

Come to think of it I should get my links page up finally myself...

Oh yeah. Out of curiosity, is Dawn loosely based off of Chrono Trigger's Ayla?

The resemblance has been bothering me since I first saw her!

Nope, just a coincedental consequence of being blonde and fur-bikinied. I do love Chrono Trigger (so it's certainly plausible) but the real credit for this stereotype goes to Raquel Welch:

I wonder if Ayla has the same source? O.o I followed over from Sam & Fuzzy and you have me hooked.

I wouldn't be surprised, but having come from Japan, I wonder if there might be a few more degrees of separation involved, Ayla's name comes from the protagonist in the Clan of the Cave Bear (who I believe is also blonde, but I haven't read the books), so there's another possibility for her. For me though, it was just a convenient stereotype that my mom didn't want me watching so much on Sunday morning TBS movies. :)

My favorite campy Dino movie is Caveman, with Ringo Starr, and now that I think of it, even though the "bombshell" female character isn't the main character's ultimate love interest, he still ends up with the blonde at the end.

I came to this following a S&F link also. This comic is great. Is there a way to put up a hit counter?

Is that a normal thing for most webcomics? It seems to me that hit counters have kind of gone by the wayside as a tacky remnant of mid-90s webdesign along with "under construction" gifs and embedded midi files. Actually, just typing that out hit me with a wave of nostalgia from my earliest web projects. *sigh*

Anyway, my hits are public via Project Wonderful, just click the "advertise here" link and you get a general idea of how I'm doing.

You'll see that my unique visits on the day Sam linked me are through the roof. I have no idea what happened there, because Sam says he doesn't even get that many hits, and my own server's stat counter suggests a number that was much, much lower (more like 4,500). However, GoogleAds also agrees with the Project Wonderful count, so the whole thing is very suspicious.
