My latest indie game fixation is Star Guard, a cool little shooting-platformer made up to look like an old Atari game--of course, simply in terms of sprite count and on-screen carnage, it could never have been done on such old hardware! The story is reminiscent of old Sci-Fi serials, and is surprisingly well-told, via text that appears in the level itself as you play, and contributes an extremely powerful sense of atmosphere despite (or perhaps due to) the simplistic visuals. It's a tough game, but the normal mode gives you infinite lives so it's not difficult to muscle your way through. I highly recommend it (and also the use of a gamepad!)
