I had a hysterical adventure once making sandwiches with some friends. I'm something of a connoisseur, my sandwiches require a certain minimum number of ingredients, and you have got to have some veggies in there. But we were limited in our options, and there were some skinny green peppers in the fridge, so I chopped one up and put it on mine. It wasn't the best sandwich, but it did the job. Not long after, I realized that my eyes were starting to burn, and my whole forehead was feeling quite feverish. The more I wiped away the sweat or rubbed my eyes, the worse it got, until the pain got quite unbearable and we realized that those were not green peppers at all but actual chilies--though extremely mild ones--and I had not given any thought to washing my hands after handling them.
Let me tell you something: rubbing chili oil in your eyes is a terrible idea.
