I was concerned at first that a bunch of people walking in close proximity to so many dinosaurs might be really bad news, especially something like this guy here, who might well have a bony lump or spikes at the end of his tail! Luckily, dinos used in the convoy are trained to keep their tails at a certain minimum height. Initially this fellow even had a kind of training leash attached from the tip of his tail to the base, to remind him to keep it suspended, but when I cropped off the end of his tail it wasn't really clear what it was for anymore.
Since I haven't drawn Mantell in like 4 months I thought it would be a good idea to remind myself what he looks like. Here's a scan of my practice Mantells, in particular there's a couple of out-of-character expressions that will (probably) never ever appear in the strip.
